The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are set to meet in Pirmam to discuss the formation of a new government cabinet and the reactivation of the Kurdistan Parliament. This follows a previous meeting held in November, marked by positive discussions on post-election responsibilities. Meanwhile, PUK and KDP leaders continue addressing pressing regional and local issues, from services in Darbandikhan to constitutional rights in Syria.

Meeting in Pirmam: Key Topics on the Table

The PUK and KDP delegations will convene tomorrow in Pirmam to focus on critical matters, including forming the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet and reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament. According to Saadi Ahmed Pire, PUK spokesperson, the discussions will also address regional developments, particularly concerning the evolving situation in Syria.

Previously, on November 30, the two parties met at the PUK Political Bureau in Sulaimaniya. The meeting concluded with a joint statement emphasizing the need for cooperation to meet the people’s needs during the sixth parliamentary term. Qubad Talabani, representing the PUK, and Hoshyar Zebari, representing the KDP, led the delegations, setting a cooperative tone for ongoing discussions.

Talabani’s Commitment to Darbandikhan’s Development

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani recently visited Darbandikhan to address pressing local issues. During his discussions with the district’s administrative officials, Talabani outlined plans to enhance public services and address infrastructure deficiencies.

Talabani announced that the Kalar-Darbandikhan road will be completed early next year, a significant milestone for regional connectivity. Additionally, he confirmed the imminent launch of the Darbandikhan water network project to resolve persistent water issues. Talabani emphasized the importance of investing in tourism to spur economic growth and create job opportunities for local residents.

District officials presented reports detailing community priorities, which Talabani pledged to address in collaboration with the government. Administrative restructuring was also highlighted as a necessary step to streamline service delivery and improve governance.

PUK-France Cooperation on Regional Stability

In Erbil, Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, a senior PUK official, welcomed Yann Braem, the Consul General of France. The discussions underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of all Syrian communities during the constitutional drafting process to ensure political stability.

Both sides emphasized that the new Syrian government must represent all groups fairly, avoiding marginalization during this transitional period. Rasul reiterated the PUK’s commitment to being an active and genuine partner in the formation of the KRG cabinet, stressing that it should reflect voters’ aspirations and focus on the welfare of the Kurdish people.
