Iraq’s Bid for the OIC Ministerial Meeting

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Iraq will host the 2026 ministerial meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Baghdad. This significant development was the result of efforts led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein. Council’s Positive Response

The response from the OIC was overwhelmingly positive. The Council of Foreign Ministers welcomed Iraq’s initiative, expressing support for the proposal. This support was formally included in the report of the 50th session of the Council. The decision not only reflects Iraq’s growing diplomatic influence within the Islamic world but also sets the stage for Baghdad to play a central role in the 52nd session of the OIC in 2026.

The Role of the OIC

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), established in 1969, is an intergovernmental organization that represents the collective voice of the Muslim world.
