Kurdistan Region Deputy PM Calls for Strong Government Amid Security Concerns

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, emphasized the urgent need for a robust government capable of protecting the region during sensitive times. He highlighted challenges facing the current caretaker administration and warned of ISIS resurgence threats during meetings with British and Italian diplomats.

Strengthening Kurdistan’s Government Formation

Qubad Talabani outlined obstacles to forming a new Kurdistan cabinet during his meeting with UK Ambassador Irfan Siddiq. He stressed that Kurdistan’s citizens require a strong government capable of navigating the current sensitive and complex phase while protecting and developing the region. Talabani criticized the current caretaker government, stating it cannot adequately address the region’s challenges or serve citizens as needed. He emphasized the importance of providing services to all areas and citizens without discrimination.

Iraq’s Future Government and Stability

Regarding Iraq’s upcoming government formation, Talabani urged Iraqi parties to consider the regional situation and citizens’ demands. He called for efforts to establish a government capable of maintaining Iraq’s stability while taking serious steps toward economic development and improving public services throughout the country. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the new Iraqi government must address both security concerns and the practical needs of all Iraqi citizens.

 

ISIS Resurgence Threat Requires Unity

During his meeting with Italian Consul General Tommaso Sansoni, Talabani discussed the dangerous threat of ISIS re-emergence in the region. He warned that the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the international community must take seriously intelligence reports indicating the terrorist organization is reorganizing to destabilize the region once again. Talabani stressed the need for early preparation in Kurdistan to confront this terrorist threat, emphasizing that political unity and consensus are essential. He concluded that security and military readiness are crucial to maintain control over the situation and preserve the country’s stability.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
