Addressing issues like the new Kurdistan Regional Government, unification of Peshmerga forces, and regional developments, he underlined the importance of cooperation among all political parties and international partners to safeguard peace, defend rights, and tackle challenges from a fresh perspective.
State Administration Coalition Gathers in Baghdad
The State Administration Coalition convened its first meeting of the year in Baghdad, with PUK leader Bafel Jalal Talabani representing his party. This meeting followed Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s visit to Tehran, where he discussed Iraq’s stability with Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei. Khamenei praised Sudani’s efforts to ensure Iraq’s security, stressing that Iraq’s prosperity benefits Iran. The coalition, composed of all major political factions in Sudani’s cabinet, addressed the implementation of the government agenda and critical issues impacting the Kurdistan Region.
Media office of PUK, emphasized that Kurdish officials would prioritize addressing the Kurdistan Region’s concerns during these meetings. This includes ensuring the new Iraqi cabinet remains focused on national unity and shared development.
PUK President Highlights Unity in Talks with International Diplomats
President Bafel Jalal Talabani held key discussions with Albrecht von Wittke, German Consul General, and Steven Bitner, US Consul General, focusing on Kurdistan, Iraq, and broader Middle East dynamics. During these meetings, President Bafel underscored the importance of joint efforts to achieve peace and stability in sensitive regions like Syria and Rojava.
On Syria, President Bafel stated: “The country is at a critical juncture. In the new Syria, everyone’s rights, especially the Kurdish people’s, must be protected. Genuine partnership is essential for governance and long-term stability.”
Regarding the new Kurdistan Regional Government, he reiterated the PUK’s commitment to building a fair and service-oriented administration that avoids past mistakes. “This government must work for all People of Kurdistan without discrimination, addressing their legitimate demands and ensuring peace and coexistence,” he said.
Unifying Peshmerga Forces: A National Priority
In all discussions, the unification of Peshmerga forces emerged as a key topic. Talabani praised international coalition support, especially from the United States, in advancing this process. He stated: “The Peshmerga must become a unified national force, free from party interference. This is a decisive process, and the PUK remains committed to overcoming obstacles and contributing to its success.”
He highlighted the importance of restructuring the Peshmerga with a focus on professionalism and collaboration, ensuring the force strengthens the Kurdistan Region’s security and stability.
