Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), visited Sulaymaniyah’s Great Mosque alongside PUK Political Bureau member Hawre Sheikh Daro after its restoration to its original form. Talabani underscored the mosque’s significance in Sulaymaniyah’s history and the role of religious leaders in fostering peace and coexistence. Additionally, Mullah Halo, a prominent preacher previously banned from preaching, has resumed his duties in a Sulaimaniya mosque.
Reconstruction of the Great Mosque
Bafel Jalal Talabani visited the Great Mosque in Sulaymaniyah following its reconstruction, returning the mosque to its original form. Accompanied by Hawre Sheikh Daro, a PUK Political Bureau member, Talabani met with religious scholars and engineers who contributed to the project. The President emphasised the mosque’s long-standing role as a central place of worship in Sulaymaniyah, noting its historical importance and its connection to religious figures who promoted peace and charity.
Importance of Religious Leaders
During the visit, Talabani highlighted the mosque’s sacred status, particularly the contributions of the religious leaders who once served there. He pointed out that the Great Mosque had always been a symbol of coexistence and guidance for the community. “The esteemed religious figures who served here exemplified worship and charity,” Talabani stated, acknowledging their efforts in fostering goodwill and spiritual well-being among the citizens of Sulaymaniyah.
Mullah Halo’s Return to Preaching
In related news, Mullah Halo, a well-known Islamic preacher in Sulaymaniyah, has been reinstated to his preaching role after several years of being banned. PUK media reported that Mullah Halo, previously expelled from his mosque, refrained from both preaching and working during his period of expulsion. His return marks a significant development for the religious community in the region, as he resumes his duties at a mosque in Sulaimaniya.
