The Iraqi High Election Commission (HEC) has confirmed Dana Ahmad Majid as the Gorran Movement’s secretary general. However, the final decision rests with the Gorran National Council, which has yet to hold an official vote on the matter. The council is set to deliberate and cast votes in the coming days. The outcome of this decision will determine whether Majidi officially takes on the role ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Appointment Process and Responsibilities

As previously reported by Kfuture.Media form different sources, The HEC has approved Majid’s candidacy, but his official appointment as secretary general must be ratified by the Gorran Movement’s National Council. According to Nizar Mahmoud, a council member, the appointment process is governed by Gorran’s internal constitution, which mandates that the general secretary be chosen based on votes within the council. “The person who becomes the organizer must have the majority of votes,” Mahmoud told Xendan.

Criteria for Nomination

The process of selecting a general secretary is not limited to one person. If another candidate is presented, they must either come from within the election chamber or be approved by the National Council. Previous candidate Zmanako Jalal, a member of the election chamber, did not proceed with the appointment, and thus a new nomination is required. Mahmoud further clarified that Dana Ahmad Majidi has not yet officially assumed the position, as it requires council approval.

Upcoming Council Vote

The vote to finalize Majidi’s appointment was initially scheduled for November 9 but has been delayed. The Gorran National Council is now expected to reconvene on September 21, 2024, to discuss and vote on the appointment before the upcoming parliamentary elections in Kurdistan. The council’s decision will determine Majid’s role and future within the movement.
