The 27th Galawezh Cultural Festival commenced in Sulaymaniyah, celebrating intellectual and literary heritage under the slogan “For the Glory of Word, Galawezh Continues.” Hosting 170 writers, poets, and researchers from Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and beyond, this prestigious event fosters cultural exchange and dialogue. A Prestigious International Gathering
Sulaymaniyah is currently hosting the 27th Galawezh International Festival, an esteemed cultural event that has consistently fostered intellectual growth and artistic dialogue since its inception in 1996. This year’s festival, sponsored by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has drawn 170 participants from countries including Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Algeria, Australia, Denmark, and France. This diverse attendance underscores Galawezh’s significance as a platform for international cultural exchange. Siamand Hadi, the festival supervisor, emphasized the importance of bringing together varied cultural perspectives, noting that many past participants have developed a deeper understanding of the Kurds and the region through their involvement.
Celebratory Opening Ceremony
The festival officially began on Thursday, December 5, at 2:30 PM, with an opening ceremony featuring performances by the Sulaymaniyah Symphony Orchestra and renowned Kurdish artist Diyari Karadaghi. This high-profile event was attended by prominent figures, including Ms. Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, First Lady of Iraq, and Hama Hama Saeed, Minister of Culture for the Kurdistan Regional Government. Intellectuals, writers, and officials also graced the occasion, reflecting the festival’s prestige.
On the first day, 12 researchers from Kurdish, Persian, and Arab backgrounds presented their work, setting the stage for days of engaging panels and seminars.
